In our latest tuhinga, we explore the exciting topic of Papakāinga housing in Aotearoa. With its rich cultural taonga and vibrant tangata whenua, Aotearoa presents unique opportunities for communal and sustainable noho through the Papakāinga housing model.
Here at HouseMe, we are dedicated to collaborating with Māori hapori to support the realisation of their housing aspirations on whenua tūpuna.
“Granny flat” is a term normally used to describe a unit for living in, that is on the same site as the main house. It is usually a separate building but could be physically attached to the main house. Designed for one or two persons, a granny flat is a self-contained living area usually located on the grounds of a single-family home. It is sometimes called a granny flat because it is a popular way for families to accommodate aging parents. They are great for family members who are wanting to care for their elderly family members while at the same time helping them keep their independence, it can be an excellent solution.
